Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching And LearningCulturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Learning, by Sharroky Hollie, Forward by Eugenia Mora-Flores Published by Shell Education in 2012. 216 pages.

This book was written to provide its readers with the knowledge and the strategies needed to support culturally and linguistically diverse students.  Throughout the book there are strategies that can be used to improve the following four pedagogical areas: classroom management, use of text, academic vocabulary and situational appropriateness.  Each chapter begins with an anticipation guide and ends with a summary and a reflection guide.  The end of the book even provides a comprehensive list of culturally responsive books, read-aloud activities, literacy activities and writing activities, which is a wonderful resource for teachers.  This is a perfect professional development book for any educator looking for effective techniques for reaching diverse students or just wanting to be more culturally aware.

The author of this book, Sharroky Hollie, has spent 25 years in various roles in education.  Dr. Hollie is currently the executive director of the Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing professional development for educators desiring to become culturally responsive.
