Author Biography

    Susan Meddaugh was born October 4, 1944 in Montclair, New Jersey.  She majored in French at Wheaton College.  Meddaugh worked in an advertising agency and then for a publishing company.  She is married with one son, Niko.  It was Niko, at age 6, who asked if their puppy, Martha, could talk if she ate some alphabet soup.  That idea got his mother started writing books.  The family still has two dogs, along with two parakeets.
    Meddaugh is best known for her picture books, particularly the Martha books.  "Martha Speaks" was a New York Times Best Book for 1992.  "Maude and Claude Go Abroad" was a Children's Choice Book.
