He received a B.F.A. from the School Of Visual Arts in New York City in 1993. While in school, Christie worked as an intern and spot illustrator for the Newark Star Ledger, where his first published work appeared. He also worked at art stores and at the Guggenheim Museum as a bookstore clerk and a security guard. He received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor in 1996 for Palm Of My Heart, in 2001 for Only Passing Through and again in 2006 for Brothers In Hope, Updating Results ...
