Author Biography

    Michael McCurdy was born February 17, 1942 in New York City.  He died May 28, 2016. McCurdy received both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Tufts University.  He also attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where he roomed with David McPhail, another well-known children's book author and illustrator.  McCurdy founded a small press, Penmaen Press, and was a college professor.
    He will be remembered for his picture books, particularly for his woodcut illustrations. "Giants in the Land" was an ALA Notable Book. "American Tall Tales" and "Hannah's Farm" were Notable Social Studies Trade Books.
