She is a graduate of the Massachusetts College Of Art And Design. Holmes is the founder and director of The Great Black Art Collection, introducing Black art to new audiences. Her artwork reflects her vision of the world influenced by moments shared with family, friends, and neighbors. Voice Of Freedom received a Caldecott Honor, a Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Honor, and the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award in 2016. Out Of Wonder received the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award in 2018.
