Author Biography

     Robert D. San Souci was born in San Francisco, California on October 10, 1946.  Mr. San Souci died December 19, 2014 after a fall resulting in a head injury. He graduated from St. Mary's College and worked in numerous bookstores.  The author often collaborates with his brother, the illustrator Daniel San Souci.  His hobbies included travel and collecting old children's books. He also enjoyed author visits.  
    San Souci will be remembered for his retelling of folk tales. "The Legend of Scarface," "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," "Cut From the Same Cloth," "The Song of Sedna," "The Enchanted Tapestry" and "Samurai's Daughter" were all Notable Social Studies Trade Books.  "Talking Eggs," "Sukey and the Mermaid" and "Faithful Friend" were all Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Books.
