Author Biography

    Franklyn Mansfield Branley was born June 5, 1915 in New Rochelle, New York and died May 22, 2002.  He attended New York University, State University of New York at Paltz, and Columbia University.  Branley worked as an astronomer at the Hayden Planetarium and as a science teacher.  The author and his wife, Margaret, had two daughters.
    Branley was known for his astronomy books, particularly those in the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out series.  "Saturn" won the Edison Foundation Award, was a SLJ Best Book and a Library of Congress Choice Book in 1983.  "Star Guide" and "From Sputnik" were Outstanding Trade Science Books.
