Gertrude Chandler Warner Birthplace: Putnam, CT USA Author Biography Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in Putnam, Connecticut on April 16, 1890. She died August 30, 1979. Because of a serious illness she did not finish high school. But, she took teacher training courses at Yale University. Warner was able to teach school without a high school or college degree because of the shortage of teachers during World War I. She taught school for 32 years. Her hobbies included volunteering for the Red Cross and playing the cello and pipe organ. Warner was best known for her Boxcar Children mysteries. Updating Results ...
