In 1862, he became a writer and reporter for the Enterprise. At the age of thirty, he began a lecture series and spoke throughout California and Nevada. He also worked as a gold prospector and for Western Union. The author and his wife, Olivia, were the parents of three daughters, Susy, Clara, and Jean. Best known by his pseudonym, Mark Twain, he was a writer of historical fiction, short stories, and nonfiction. Clemens died in Redding, Connecticut on April 21, 1910.
