Author Biography

   Eric A. Kimmel was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 30, 1946.  He received a Bachelor's Degree from Lafayette College, a Master's Degree from New York University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.  Kimmel worked as a teacher and a librarian.  The author has a wife named Doris and one stepdaughter.  His hobbies include bird watching, baking bread and brewing beer.  He also enjoys author visits.
   Kimmel is best known for his adaptations of folk tales from all over the world. "Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1990. "Days of Awe" and "The Greatest of All" were Notable Social Studies Trade Books in 1992.  He was awarded the Sydney Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
