Author Biography

    Molly Bang was born December 29, 1943 in Princeton, New Jersey.  She received a B.A. from Wellesley College, a Master's from the University of Arizona and a Master's in Oriental Studies from Harvard University.  Bang has taught English in Japan, illustrated manuals for UNICEF, and worked as a translator in several languages.  She and her husband, Richard, have one daughter, Monika.  
    The author has also written under the name Garrett Bang and she is best known for her picture books.  "The Grey Lady and the Strawberry Snatcher" was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Picture Book Honor Book in 1980 and a Caldecott Honor Book in 1981.  "Wiley and the Hairy Man" was an ALA Notable Book.  "Dawn" was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Picture Book Honor Book in 1984 and "Paper Crane" was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Picture Book Award Winner in 1986.  "When Sophie Gets Angry-- Really, Really Angry..." was a Caldecott Honor Book in 2000.  "Ten, Nine, Eight" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1984.
