Author Biography

   Jean Van Leeuwen was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on December 26, 1937.  She attended Syracuse University.  Van Leeuwen worked in children's book publishing and teaching writers' workshops.  The author and her husband, Bruce Gavril, have two children, David and Elizabeth.  Her hobbies include gardening, tennis and listening to music.  She also enjoys author visits.
   Van Leeuwen is best known for her fiction for younger ages.  "More Tales of Oliver Pig"  and "Amanda Pig and Her Big Brother Oliver" were ALA Notable Books in 1981 and 1982, respectively.
