She holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree from The City College of New York. Ringgold has worked as a painter and has taught art in New York. The author and illustrator is married and has two daughters. Ringgold's artwork is in public and private collections all over the world. She is a professor of art at the University of California in San Diego.
