Dr. Seuss Website:www.seussville.com Birthplace: Springfield, MA USA Author Biography Theodor ("Ted") Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was educated at Dartmouth College and Oxford. Geisel worked in advertising for fifteen years. He joined the Army during World War II and worked producing propaganda for the troops. His wife Helen was also a published children's book author. They had no children. After Helen died in 1967 he remarried Audrey Dimond, who had two daughters by a previous marriage. His hobbies included gardening. Besides "Dr. Seuss," Geisel also wrote under the pen names Theo LeSieg and Rosetta Stone. The author received a Caldecott Honor for "McElligot's Pool" in 1948, "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" in 1950 and "If I Ran the Zoo" in 1951. He received two Emmys, a Peabody Award, three Academy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. Geisel also received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his lasting contribution to literature for children in 1980. The author died September 24, 1991. Updating Results ...
