Elizabeth Enright Birthplace: Oak Park, IL USA Author Biography Elizabeth Enright was born in Oak Park, Illinois on September 17, 1909. She died in 1968. As a child she spent many summers on her uncle, Frank Lloyd Wright's, farm in Wisconsin. Her mother was a magazine illustrator and her father was a political cartoonist. She studied art at Parson's School of Design and worked illustrating magazines. Later in life she taught creative writing at Barnard College. She and her husband had two sons. Although she illustrated numerous children's books, she is best known for her novels. "Thimble Summer" won the Newbery Medal in 1939. "Gone-Away Lake" was a Newbery Honor Book in 1958.
