Lynne V. Cheney Birthplace: Casper, WY Author Biography Lynne Ann Vincent was born August 14, 1941 in Casper, Wyoming. She received a B.A. with highest honors from Colorado College, M.A. from the University of Colorado, and a Ph.D. in 19th century British literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She married Richard B. Cheney in 1964. They have two grown daughters, Elizabeth and Mary. Mrs. Cheney served as chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1986 to 1993. She founded the American Council of Trustees and Alumni in 1995 to monitor American colleges and academia. She is a senior fellow in education and culture at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research and also serves as a director of Reader's Digest Association. In 2003, Mrs. Cheney launched the James Madison Book Award which is presented to the book that best represents excellence in bringing knowledge and understanding of American history to young people.
