Earl B. Lewis Website:www.eblewis.com Birthplace: Philadelphia, PA Most recent address:Folsom, NJ Author Biography Earl B. Lewis was born December 16, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his formal art training at the Temple University School Art League run by his uncle at the end of sixth grade. He remained in the program until his enrollment at Temple University Tyler School of Art in 1975 where he majored in graphic design and illustration and art education. He began his career as a teacher and freelancing in graphic design. Lewis is a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York City and teaches illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He won a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor in 1999 for "Bat Boy & His Violin", in 2000 for "My Rows And Piles Of Coins" and again in 2001 for "Virgie Goes To School With Us Boys", the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award in 2003 for "Talkin' About Bessie" and a 2005 Caldecott Honor for "Coming On Home Soon."
