Booklist - 11/01/2018 The Events That Changed America series offers snapshots of important moments in American history. These compact books have plenty of visuals that work well with the brisk texts. The Children's Crusade of 1963 gives a vivid picture of how the young people of Birmingham, Alabama, answered the call for justice and put their bodies on the line to help end segregation. The description of authorities using water hoses and dogs against the protesters is particularly sharp. Each book features quotations from only a couple of sources, “Fast Facts,” a time line, and critical-thinking questions. Good entry points into American history. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
