Booklist - 03/15/2018 The hybrid pooch-predator introduced in Shark Dog (2017) goes for woodsy adventures and mishaps with his red-haired young companion and her classmates. As the children eagerly explore the natural world around them—which, in Adamson’s bright cartoon illustrations, is positively crowded with cute, popeyed woodland fauna—Shark Dog, with equal enthusiasm, leaps into a pond full of frogs, rolls in a puddle and sprays the campers with mud, helps everyone to free a baby bear trapped beneath a fallen tree, and then leads the errant class back to the bus. “We all agreed that this was no ordinary school trip. Because of Shark Dog, it was even better!” Dorsal fin and gill slits notwithstanding, Shark Dog is pretty much a regular dog here, showing none of the hints of a dual nature that added moments of suspense to his premiere outing. Still, he’s a stubby-limbed bundle of energy with a big personality, and merits a warm welcome from fans of Gene Zion’s dirt magnet Harry, Chris Raschka’s irrepressible Daisy, and other tail-waggers - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
