Booklist - 11/01/2015 Twelve-year-old Ruby is tired of having friends only because her parents are famous (a supermodel and an MLB player). So when the opportunity to begin again arises—by way of a boarding school in Maine—Ruby grabs it. When Summer (her first friend at Midcoast Academy) gets the impression that Ruby’s parents are dead, Ruby doesn’t correct her mistake, and things get complicated. Ruby also befriends Conner, a cute boy who is still reeling from losing his parents years before. As with most deceptions, though, Ruby’s lie about her parents gets harder to keep, but so much could be lost if the truth were exposed. This charming novel of family, friendship, and finding yourself addresses common themes with several unique twists. The small-town Maine setting is vividly drawn, and although most of the characters feel too good to be true, somehow it still works. As the narrator, Ruby’s warm, engaging voice and precocious talent (she is a dress designer) stand out, and she will win the hearts of her readers. - Copyright 2015 Booklist.
