Booklist - 05/15/2017 In Will Wilder’s second outing (after Will Wilder: The Relic of Perilous Falls, 2016), he finds himself fighting off another demon—this time an ancient evil known as Amon. When the staff of Moses goes missing from Perilous Falls’ museum, the town is stricken with the Old Testament plagues that Moses experienced. Faced with gnats, frogs, a swarm of locusts, and a river running with blood, Will and his friends must fight to save their town before the demon takes over. The full cast of characters appears a bit stock and underdeveloped, and Arroyo’s depiction of two Middle Eastern characters, a TV mystic and his assistant, comes across as mildly stereotyped and insensitive. Nevertheless, Will’s adventures combine religion, mythology, and archaeology in interesting ways, and an open ending leaves room for future instances of derring-do. This series works best as a supplement for libraries where adventure titles are popular. - Copyright 2017 Booklist.
