Booklist - 05/01/2018 Readers will love this real-time, interactive mystery (with exhibits, maps, and seek-and-find challenges) about Frank, a missing French bulldog. The bright, cartoonlike artwork uses collage elements to give the story a realistic feel. It starts with a “Lost Dog” flyer taped to a community bulletin board, showing a stubby, black-and-white pup wearing a green polka-dot bow tie. The narrator speaks directly to the reader, “We should help find him,” and then presents a number of “exhibits” about Frank. Through these, we learn that Frank plays fetch, but doesn’t return the ball; cheese gives him stinky toots; and he gets easily overheated, but is terrific at finding ways to cool off. Then we move on to interviews with key witnesses in the neighborhood, including the mail carrier, a girl on a swing, and the members of a baseball team. Readers must return to certain exhibits in their search for clues to the wayward Frenchie’s whereabouts, but their sleuthing is gratifyingly rewarded by story’s end. An involving and fun debut. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
