Booklist - 12/15/2018 This ode to imagination features two little polar bears who, on each spread, ask the question What if? Initially, they are shown on a broken ice floe stuck in the middle of the sea, wondering what would happen if they got lost far from home. Turn the page: Then we would become the bravest explorers in the world. The visuals carry the story along, with illustrations building upon one another. Though perhaps not immediately apparent, the new boat on which they sail is made of ice, and it carries them to adventures. What if . . . every crayon in the world melted? a lovely spread asks. Then we would grab our pencils and fall in love with gray. A question about friendship wonders if a fight could get in their way, but notes that would mean missing the sharing that inspires them. The lively artwork, created in mixed media and boldly outlined, uses well-chosen fonts to accentuate the action. With much to look at and think about, this is a good choice to discuss as well as enjoy. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
