School Library Journal - 01/01/2014 K-Gr 3—This series is an excellent resource for students who are just beginning to study data and graphing. The appealing layout consists of large, bright, color photos and diagrams that complement the simple text. Each book is organized into three chapters. The first introduces the featured graph, while in the second a fictional character walks readers through each step of the graphing process. The final section is called "You Try It" and provides students with a challenge to practice the skill introduced in the story. Content vocabulary is set apart in bold font throughout and defined in the glossary. Each book contains a word list that is suggested to be used as a "Home and School Connection." These titles cover many of the Common Core learning standards for reading informational text for grades one and two. This series is written for readers with intermediate reading skills. However, the volumes are solid supplemental materials for reading aloud as teachers introduce the concept of graphing skills to younger students.—Annette Herbert, F. E.
