School Library Journal - 05/01/2019 Gr 2–5—Six ancient worlds come alive in this series for the early and middle grades. Each book profiles a different civilization: Egypt, China, Greece, India, Mesopotamia, and Rome. Using well-organized, cohesive chapters, these titles will help readers make connections between dynasties and time periods. Each book provides an overview of geography, including simple maps; language and religion; major conflicts or cultural shifts; and significant dates and labeled time lines of events. The large text is easy to read; words that might be unfamiliar are bolded, reinforcing confidence and comprehension. A mixture of imagery, including historical photographs, drawings, archival images, and photos of modern-day points of interest, fill each page and are appropriately labeled. More advanced learners can do further exploration using the ¿Quieres saber más? (Want to learn more?) sections at the end of each chapter. VERDICT This well-translated series has broad appeal and will update any history collection. - Copyright 2019 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
