Goembel’s clear, spacious double-page spreads in colored-ink lines with acrylic wash include a scene of a child singing in a big choir reaching “a breathless height / I can never reach alone.” Most of the scenarios are of a solitary child surrounded by space and quiet, dreaming of exciting connections in the wider world and empowered with wings that let her fly.
