Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 09/01/2014 The large-format books of the High-Tech Science series discuss technologies that have come into common use in recent years. Each double-page spread looks at a different aspect of the topic, presenting it in short paragraphs, brief sidebars, and two or three captioned photos. Drawn from many sources, the clearly reproduced photos sometimes aid understanding, but often they support the text in a rather literal way. Even the best photo of a helicopter, for example, does little to further the reader’s understanding of the technology it uses. The text, meanwhile, delivers bite-size chunks of information that attentive readers can put together to grasp the basics of how each technology works and what benefits it delivers. How Does GPS Work? traces the development of the Global Positioning System and its uses, ranging beyond navigation to meteorology, archaeology, and criminology. This serviceable series is recommended mainly for large libraries and those with a demand for the books’ subjects. - Copyright 2014 Booklist.
