Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 05/15/2017 Taking a broad approach to bridges, from types of structures to more conceptual or metaphorical notions, such as personal connection, this inviting picture book combines information with cheerful cartoonish art, playful elements, and prose. Keely’s examples range from the Golden Gate Bridge, in San Francisco, to covered bridges and drawbridges (“they date to medieval times when knights in armor—and dragons?!—fought for their castles”), and even extends to include rainbows, which are “bridges from sunshine to rain.” Side bars and explanations in smaller text offer more comprehensive information about each bridge. Colorful, full-spread illustrations, often featuring a trio of multicultural kids, incorporate varying perspectives and settings, from urban to natural, with bridges always the primary focus. While the information presented is occasionally unsatisfyingly vague, this still offers some interesting factoids and a peppy, thought-provoking presentation of the topic. The upbeat conclusion—“But the bridge I like the best isn’t so grand. It connects me to you and you to me . . . through the simple holding of hands”—makes this a nice pick for storytime, too. - Copyright 2017 Booklist.
