Booklist - 10/15/2019 Eleven-year-old Pippa spends her Wednesdays in the hallway of the National Ballet of Canada sketching fashion designs, while her older sister takes dance lessons. Pippa’s worst-case scenario (losing her sketchbook) becomes her best-case scenario when it is found by Marjory, the head of the wardrobe department, who takes Pippa under her wing and introduces the young girl to the world of costume design. For readers with an interest in dance or fashion, this book is a must. Pippa is a funny and passionate character, and her behind-the-scenes foray into the work, research, and collaboration entailed in creating a ballet’s costumes—in this case, for Sleeping Beauty—is fascinating. Illustrations reminiscent of Hilary Knight’s work in the Eloise books capture Pippa’s spirit and enthusiasm, while photos of professional ballet costumes and workroom materials add authority to what she is learning. By threading Pippa’s “tu-tu-torial” with scenes from her life—squabbles with her sister, doodling during math class—the story is relatable on many levels. Logan’s well-crafted homage to dance and design celebrates working to develop your talents and passions. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
