Booklist - 06/01/2017 In this straightforward art book, owls, caterpillars, yaks, and other animals take shape with paint, a handprint or two, and a requisite set of googly eyes. On each brightly colored page is an animal composed of one or more handprints and set in a cartoon version of its natural habitat. Some instructions suggest painting both hands, which could be challenging without help, and the direction “paint on googly eyes” is a bit confounding, since they’re clearly all glued on. Additionally, some of the creatures look quite odd when composed of handprints, such as the penguin and narwhal. For the most part, however, the projects are easily achievable for little crafters, and the creations can be enhanced with a little bit of imagination. Back page material includes a glossary of words bolded in the instructions. Facts about the animals or diagrams that indicate a part specific to an animal would have been a nice addition, but as a book of art projects sure to suit any nursery or preschool teacher’s animal theme, this works. - Copyright 2017 Booklist.
