Booklist - 07/01/2022 Stud is a 14-year-old boy who has recently activated special powers that allow his hands to morph into giant metal hammers and his fingers to transform into deadly nails. He dreams of becoming an adventurer, like his frequently absent father, and he yearns for friendship with the kids in his local town. However, his father is always in and out of his life, going away on adventure expeditions and leaving him behind, and he struggles to build friendships with the kids in town. Everything in his life changes when he finds a strange book in his fathers study that unexpectedly grants his wish to live in the world of the book. Stud is then teleported to a magical world with mermaids, humanoid aquatic creatures, and many mysteries. This book has traits of Japanese manga, like anime-inspired artwork, but it's formatted in a Western style, making it a welcoming entry point to some features of the manga format. The easy-to-follow story and action-packed art will have young fantasy-adventure fans eager for the next installment. - Copyright 2022 Booklist.
