Booklist - 02/01/2021 This Spanish translation of Linda Sue Park’s best-selling A Long Walk to Water is a poignant, multilayered tale of two 11-year-olds in Sudan—Salva, in 1985, and Nya, in 2008—and their relationships to the local environment, specifically the water. Nya walks each day to the nearest pond, two hours away, to fetch water for her family, whereas Salva is a child refugee, wandering across Africa in search of his missing family. Humaran captures the informative and pleasantly narrative tone of Park’s novel while preserving the tongue-in-cheek humor. Most remarkable is the intersection of these two plots, as readers learn how Nya's and Salva’s lives have affected each other. Their personalities shine as Nya devotes her time to aiding her family and Salva traverses the continent, braving dangers such as armed rebels and attacks from wild beasts. Water is a necessity, and this lovely translation highlights this, linking two memorable characters across time. - Copyright 2021 Booklist.
