Choosing Government Leaders series helpfully presents a basic overview of presidential elections in a roughly chronological order, moving from the concept of a president to how elections happen (including the electoral college) to the practical things a president needs to lead, like trusted advisors and a worthy vice president. Each two-page spread features a large-format photo, some clearly written information, and flashy inset boxes, including an occasional feature titled “Your Turn,” which connects presidential elections to something more in reach for the audience: school elections. The advice for getting involved ranges from pragmatic, such as learning the requirements for running for student council, to subjective, such as the importance of keeping campaign promises.
