Booklist - 01/01/2018 A warship isn’t necessarily where the son of the god of summer and health belongs, but Magnus Chase isn’t finding himself with much of a choice: Loki, the notorious trickster god, has escaped from his prison and is preparing to use the Ship of the Dead to kick-start Ragnarok. Once again, it’s up to a reluctant Magnus and his assorted group of friends to save the day, and the enemies they’re facing are bigger than ever (literally—there’s more than one giant in the mix). Worse, Magnus is going to have to face his most difficult task yet: a battle of wits against the silver-tongued Loki. In this third series installment, Riordan continues to prioritize inclusivity in his characterizations: most of the events of this book take place over Ramadan, which means Valkyrie Samirah has to do everything everyone else is doing, while fasting. There’s romance on the horizon, too, as Magnus’ attraction to gender-fluid Alex finally comes to the surface. Open endings mean there’s plenty more to come, and fans will be delighted. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
