Booklist - 11/01/2018 Eleanor Roosevelt knew the importance of children growing up as knowledgeable citizens. In this book’s original form, she offered a simple, helpful guide aimed at helping children understand the way the U.S. government works. This updated and revised edition begins with a look at local government and then explains what big (federal) government does and why it is important to care about who is elected at the local and national levels. Lin’s new illustrations offer children visual clues as to what they may see when they come of age to vote. The book tells children that while “you may be guided by the choices of your party, you should also learn, on your own, the facts about issues and the candidates.” Roosevelt (with Markel’s assistance) brings a neighborly view of how one should not just think about oneself but about others’ needs as well.
