  | Full Text Reviews: Booklist - 12/01/2014 Science does a lot right. But over the centuries, scientists have gotten more than a few things wrong. This pithy book, from the Science Gets It Wrong series, gives readers a look at some of the mistaken notions that seem amusing now but resulted in untold deaths. Bloodletting with leeches hastened the death of George Washington, and the idea that large doses of radiation were beneficial killed Marie Curie, among others. A few of the examples that the book gives are less clear-cut. The jury is still out, for example, on some of the topics of scientific study presented, such as near-death experiences. Not everything looked at here is life or death. This also gives readers an intriguing look at medical history during times when some thought your personality could be deduced by the bumps on your head or that eyes acted as headlights. The graphically bright design features some photos of interest, though most are stock.
