School Library Journal - 05/01/2026 Gr 2–5—In this sporty series addition, a fox named Frank is teaching a bear named Bert how to play soccer, and it's off to a not-so-good start. Bert kicks too high and the ball lands in some silly yet inconvenient places, like a couple's picnic and even on the back of a porcupine. Frank asks for assistance from another friend, local soccer legend Barbara, to help teach Bert how to play soccer, without getting too involved in the game himself. The charming illustrations, simple yet colorful and expressive, present the highs and the lows of learning how to play a sport. And yet, the story heads toward a much-needed lesson that everyone can play using their own unique abilities. VERDICT A fun story about friendship and learning how to play a new sport. - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
