Booklist - 09/01/2025 Cerilli transports readers into a world that is a rich blend of the 1920s, noir, steampunk, and fantasy. And, to top it all off, it is unapologetically queer. Puck’s Port is filled with tension between its mortal and fey inhabitants, the latter of which possess strong but lethal powers. Readers get a healthy dose of both perspectives via the main characters— who are also siblings—mortal Gristle Senan Maxim Jr. and fey Hawthorne Stregoni. Gristle is forced to follow in his father’s footsteps as a private investigator and solve a brutal murder, one that was committed by a fey with similar abilities to Hawthorne’s. Hawthorne is desperate to have complete control over her fey abilities but struggles immensely. Alongside traditional narration are diary entries and articles, which provide more insight into the characters and their world. The usage of fey and the “Faerie Disorder” as an allegory for neurodivergent folks is unique and fairly digestible. An excellent choice for mystery lovers, fantasy lovers, or those who want a unique faerie tale. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
