School Library Journal - 03/27/2026 Gr 1–3—Another installment in a popular series commences as the old lady swallows the most feared creature in all the ocean, a shark. Readers will delight in this; it's not just the shark the old lady swallows, but all the things the shark needs, such as other nautical-themed gear and toys. It's all piling up, but the old lady never blinks, nor bloats, right up to the final swallow. The singsong rhyming gets more humorous as the old lady continues to down one absurd item after another, from a pair of sunglasses to sit on the hat that was swallowed to dress the shark, all the way to the end where everything comes up and is revealed to be part of a pool party. This far-fetched read will keep young ones engaged right through to the goofy end. Lee's illustrations follow his classic style of his other illustrated books as well as the other "Old Lady" reads; they are bright and cartoony, and very inviting. VERDICT A solid purchase for elementary collections wherever this series is popular.—Molly Dettmann - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
