Bright graphics map out how various parts interact with one another (step-by-step analysis shows how throwing a ball requires cooperation between all four lobes). Using everyday examples, accessible spreads explain how different lobes interpret sensory input, specializing in specific areas: sight, sound, smell, temperature regulation, memory, and so on. The text incorporates technical vocabulary defined within context, and incorporates kid-friendly comparisons (a sperm whale's brain weighs about 20 pounds; a baby's just under 1) and facts (some jellyfish don't have brains; octopuses have 8, 1 in each arm). Explanations of how doctors see inside brains and tips for keeping brains healthy are also included.
