Booklist - 08/01/2025 Sheeta and friend Nala dream of going on adventures together, but the world Outside their village is full of dangers, like weasels and colonies of ants. One morning, Nala sneaks away, determined to find Sheeta’s adventurer father and forcing Sheeta to set off into the Outside to save him. Sheeta must use every ounce of survival skill and bravery to overcome the challenges of Little Folk versus Mother Nature. Kamba blends real-world artifacts like a box of matches with fantasy characteristics to create a world that seamlessly flows together. Disguised in the cute illustrations is a perilous world full of high-stakes challenges and emotionally charged moments that let Sheeta’s character shine. Sheeta is a charismatic and strong protagonist, but not without flaws as he very quickly discovers how difficult survival will be. This story has enough depth to be enjoyed by young teen readers but is still charming and light enough to be appealing for upper elementary readers. Recommended for libraries where lighthearted fantasies like Delicious in Dungeon do well. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
