Full Text Reviews: Booklist - 11/15/2016 Prolific adult mystery writer McCall Smith has fashioned a nautical adventure with the feel of an old-fashioned yarn. Fee and Ben McTavish are twins, homeschooled by their marine scientist parents aboard their submarine but ready to move up and join the students on the school ship Tobermory. When some of the students, including Ben, have an opportunity to take part in a movie being filmed onboard a neighboring ship, they find themselves involved in an unexpected mystery. Although supposed to be from around the world, the kids, who are all either good eggs or bad apples, are not diverse and all speak as if they have been Eton educated, making the premise and the mystery more interesting than the cast. Illustrations presented in a graphic-novel format add zip to the sometimes stilted text, and an extensive glossary of nautical terms is included. The story stands on its own but could also serve as a series debut, with a couple of plot threads left open for further investigation. - Copyright 2016 Booklist. Loading...
