Booklist - 04/01/2026 First published in the UK, the seventeenth book in McQuinn’s Lola series features a story with fundamental child appeal, written using simple words and transporting young readers and listeners to Lola’s idyllic home, where the parents understand their three children and the older siblings play well with the younger ones. Lola and her somewhat younger brother, Leo, look forward to meeting their new baby sister. In the cozy story and the soft, gentle illustrations, Lola and Leo read baby books to their new sister, sing baby songs, and play baby games with her while talking with relatives eager to meet the new child. Attaching an old blanket and fairy lights to a discarded parasol, Lola creates a portable, circular tent, her hideout where she can go when she wants to be alone or with a friend, like Makeda (her cat) or her cousin Hani. Whether used as a beginning-reader book or a read-aloud picture book, this lovable volume sensitively portrays emotional shifts that might occur within a growing family that is adjusting to change. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
