Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 06/01/2026 K-Gr 2—Told in rhyme, the Gingerbread Man narrates the tale of how he came to be a member of an elementary classroom during their Halloween festivities. The school day includes games and food, and after school, Gingerbread Man is invited by his friends to join them for trick-or-treating. He makes himself a clever bat costume using materials found in the classroom, and as soon as the friends gather, they head out to seek candy in their neighborhood. Towards the end of their evening, a large owl swoops down and carries off Gingerbread Man. With some quick thinking, he tickles the owl's talons and gets him to let go and uses his costume bat wings to glide safely to the ground. His friend Oscar renames him Gingerbat Man! The large and colorful panels are well suited to this gentle tale with just enough excitement for young readers. The dialogue boxes are clear and crisp. Full-page art spreads are used to advantage during big narrative moments. VERDICT A recommended purchase where the series is already popular or where more Halloween stories are needed.—Elisabeth LeBris - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
