Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 03/01/2026 Wallace the horse and his friend Poppy the dragon are sure to please readers of buddy stories in this early reader comic debut. In a palette of popping colors that practically glow off of the pages, the two pals cavort in the quaint little medieval town of La-DeeDah in three stories where they set out to f ind the difference between superpowers and just traits common to horses and dragons, challenge their tastes in pudding, and overlook each other’s not-so-obvious changes in appearance. In text composed of nearly all dialogue, the two find plenty to quibble about, but no harm comes from their good-natured disagreements. They are supportive, ask each other questions to gain understanding, and come through with a sense of appreciating their differences. With smart shading and shadows, Chua’s round characters look so tactile you could reach out and squish ’em. Easy-to-follow panels featuring brisk action, silly social-emotional situations, and cute camaraderie in a fantasy setting make for a fun read. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
