Summary:
Flitter. Flutter. Buzz. Hum. Come watch a meadow thrum. But what happens when a meadow meets a metropolis? There's not much pollen to be found with steel buildings, concrete roads, and primly trimmed lawns. So this classroom plans and builds urban gardens to create an inviting pathway for pollinators to visit.

School Library Journal - 05/02/2026 PreS-Gr 2—This cheerful, informational text advocates for a world where pollinators ("animals that visit flowering plants and trees to feed on nectar and pollen") can survive and thrive, benefitting everyone on Earth. The book begins by demonstrating how pollinators thrive in open meadows, but when humans build cities and lay down concrete, pollinators are stuck and can no longer travel to do their job. Children will relate to the brightly colored artwork that features a diverse cast of characters (both humans and pollinators, including varied species of butterflies, bats, and birds). Not a space on the page is wasted; vibrant spreads feature different kinds of flowers and pleasingly busy city landscapes. By the end of the book, the child characters create a network or a pathway for the pollinators to survive. The idea that humans should help pollinators instead of stopping them is very clear by the conclusion. With its relevant subject matter and Schaub's poetic text woven into Gomez's uniquely lovely illustrations, this is an ideal spring read-aloud to teach the concept of pollination. VERDICT A valuable addition to a young picture book or science collection.—Angela Warsinske - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
