Booklist - 05/01/2026 Stepsisters Quinn and Kenzie are like any sisters. They argue, take each other’s stuff, have vastly different interests, and are best friends. When their parents can’t stop fighting, their grandmother takes the girls to spend the summer in the Outer Banks. Quinn and Kenzie are quickly caught up in the magic of the beach, especially a herd of wild horses on one of the surrounding islands, yet not even the new foal can distract them from their fears of a separation back home and an unfamiliar life without each other. The artwork is drawn with soft lines and island tones with halftone dots that create a hazy effect on the edges of some images. The layering of realistic artwork, dots, and sketched lines creates visual textures that mirror the layered emotions within the narrative. Between the island storms and wild horses, forces of nature churning through the novel remind the sisters that while some things are out of their control, the storm can always be weathered together. A powerful story of sibling bonds and changing family dynamics. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
