School Library Journal - 12/12/2025 Gr 8 Up—Tamura offers a cosmically delicious dark horse. When aliens arrive on earth, there is one thing they need: insurance. In comes Cosmos, a company which provides and processes these insurance claims, and generally ensures that these visitors abide by Earth's rules. This all comes as an initially shocking but agreeable surprise to high-schooler Kaede, whose ability to smell out lies makes him an optimal hire. While learning the investigatory ropes from his no-nonsense coworker Rin, they stop fraudsters and help genuine claimants. This title's capitalistic premise is only skin-deep, for at its core, it's all heart. Each investigation has a character-driven plot with an emotional nugget. Then there is Kaede himself, an empathetic young man who always feels the need to distance himself from others. Watching his world and viewpoint expand exudes good vibes. With writing and visuals that deftly portray badass takedowns, deadpan comedy, emotional beats, and even some philosophical musings, this manga is a cosmic package deal. VERDICT Weirdness, thrills, and meaning-of-life feels coexist in this sci-fi set piece about a young man's journey of self-discovery. Recommended for all manga collections.—Rachel Forbes - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
