School Library Journal - 10/01/2025 Gr 1–3—Tana, a young Choctaw girl who loves cooking with her family, is back for more heartwarming adventures. In these titles, she starts a gardening club at school with her dad, learns to find the good in things, and overcomes her fear of dogs by baking special treats for them. Tana is a responsible and caring protagonist whose love of cooking shines throughout each story. Each book features recipes at the end, along with a glossary, thinking questions, and writing prompts to engage readers further. Though each book has only seven chapters, the chapters are text-heavy and better suited for more confident chapter book readers. VERDICT A fun, family-focused cooking series that highlights Choctaw culture and is a great addition to diverse early chapter book collections. - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
