School Library Journal - 05/02/2026 PreS-K—It's Pigeon's birthday, and Pigeon can't wait to celebrate! He's all dressed up in his fancy plumage and is excited about his birthday hot dog. But wait. Someone blew out the candle and ate half the hotdog!? Oh. It's the duckling's special day, too. Pigeon throws a magnificent tantrum, and as he calms down and realizes they can share, several more ducklings hatch. Rendered in the author's classic style, this book is bright and colorful and has dynamic movement in the illustrations, especially in the scenes with Pigeon's tantrums. The perennial topics of sharing and birthdays along with the expected humor and art of the series will have kids wanting to read to it again and again. VERDICT Any Pigeon book is a must-have for all children's collections.—Kristin Anderson - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
